In the post 3 inspiring ideas to improve your blog and make it shine, we talked a bit about cleaning up your blog categories and tags so you keep your blog more targeted and easy to navigate.
Let’s talk more about categories and tags for your blog, with examples of how you can set them up.
But first of all, what do we mean by categories and tags ?
You can see categories as the table of contents of your blog (like a book’s Table of Contents), or the main sections that your blog is about.
You can see tags as the index of your blog (like a book’s index), or as additional ways for your readers to get to specific content on your blog.
Categories and tags appear under your posts, as something similar to the example below. When readers click on those links, they get to specific posts marked as belonging to those categories or tags.
You can add categories when you start your blog if you have a pretty good idea of your blog mission and target.
However many of us do not have a clear idea at the beginning, and that’s totally fine, because you can also add them as you go along. Even more, tags and categories are easy to rename, add or delete.
If you want to add categories and tags for a post you’re working on, just check the right-hand side of your blog post content and you’ll see a box called Categories and another one underneath called Tags. From those boxes you have buttons to add or select a category, and also to add or select a tag.
Great, now that I convinced you these items are important, what are some real examples of categories and tags for your blog?
