Did you know that there are ways of saying: Hi! that can make us happier?
Saying Hi! seems so simple. However, being in a rush every day, we miss the opportunity to do it graciously and to connect with other people in a more sincere way.
So how can you be more present and really engage when you say “Hi”?
1. Say “Hi!”
The most obvious way is to just say “Hi!” to everyone you meet on your way to work.
If you are working from home and don’t get to see many people, try it when you go out for a walk during the day.
Maybe you say “Hi!” to the new neighbour who moved in last week or to the lady who takes her grandson for a stroll every day.
2. Say “Hi <name>, how are you?”
OK, we’re getting more connected already.
When you know the person, saying their name makes them happier and in turn makes you happier too. So it’s a win-win situation.
A lady I know at the coffee shop greets everyone with a wonderful smile and with the words:
Hi <name>, how are you? Would you like your usual today?
She makes you feel so special and puts you in an excellent mood for the day.
3. Say “Hi, how are you?” and more
Can I ask you to stretch yourself a little bit more?
Take a few minutes to chat with a colleague and learn more about them. Maybe you tell them how much you appreciated their help with the presentation that you worked on together last week.
Maybe you ask if they needed advice on a particular issue that they had. Or maybe you just chat about how their family was, since you heard they were sick last week.
Try these tips and let me know how you feel. Don’t forget to add a smile to your “Hi”!
What’s your way of greeting people? Say “Hi!” by leaving a comment.
