I started this blog post very confidently…
In fact it’s one of the few posts I started with a great title before writing the content.
It does not happen very often to me. I usually write up the post and then craft the title, after a number of tries.
But then the actual content did not come easily to me. In fact, it took me a few days to finish it, after a few rewrites.
I even announced it on social media, which should have given me enough of a push and accountability to write it.
I think I know why this blog post was so hard to write… And it has to do with confidence.
Which is ironic, because I’m teaching you how to be more confident in this very post, so I should, you know, be confident?
But I digress. Let me share with you 8 reasons (I’m sure there are more!) why you may not be blogging confidently.
I experienced all of them at one time or another in my blogging journey:
1. You think there’s nothing you could be writing about
You’re not a good writer, and all great blog posts are already written.
Fix it: Write anyway.
Even if you feel like you’re copying someone, that your writing skills stink, or if you stare 5 minutes in front of the monitor not typing a single word.
It will work in the end, I promise you! After all, it worked for me with this post.
2. You have moments when you’re all up and happy…
… writing blog posts after blog posts, and then something happens.
You get busy with life, you get overwhelmed with other things. You think you won’t have time and ideas.
Fix it: So don’t write for a while.
You’re not a prisoner to your blog, take a break. Spend some time evaluating your life, getting clear about what’s important and what’s not and see if blogging is part of it.
3. You don’t think your blog is looking its best
You think you could improve your blog, but you don’t have a clear plan to do it.
Fix it: Grab a piece of paper.
Look at the home page of your blog.
Write 3 things you’re not happy about and make a plan to get them fixed within a couple weeks.
4. You have no idea how to write great titles for your blog
The content comes easily, but you’re always stuck at the headlines and you’re thinking they’re not good enough to attract readers.
Fix it: Look at magazines and newspapers
See what titles attract you and make you want to read them. Start writing titles like that.
5. Your blog design looks so old and outdated…
…that you’re kinda ashamed to post on it.
The simple thought of writing a post and then sharing it with the world sends shivers to your spine.
Fix it: Change the design of your blog.
Or start a new one from scratch.
If you have the skills to do it, go ahead and do it yourself.
Otherwise, I urge you to hire someone to do it for you. Looking back, that’s gonna be money well spent, I promise you!
6. Nobody comments on your blog
All you get are some strange comments that do not seem to be from humans.
You’re not even sure if you should keep them on your blog or not. Well, it’s better than no comments at all…
Fix it: Please, please install an anti-spam system/plugin.
And don’t allow garbage comments on your blog any longer. It’s your home, keep it neat and clean.
7. You don’t know what works…
…and doesn’t work anymore in terms of tools and strategies.
You’re telling yourself:
Oh, why bother, nobody seems to notice my blog posts anyway.
But, are you sharing them with anyone?
Fix it: Continue to share your posts.
This is equally important to blogging often.
8. Nothing of the above…
…and you still don’t know what the problem is.
Which, by the way, makes you really frustrated already! You’ve read this entire blog post and still have no solution to your blogging with confidence issue.
