You started your blog, you’ve been posting regularly for a while now, but you still haven’t seen much of a growth from all the work you’ve been putting in.
Yes, it takes time. Yes, you were expecting things to move faster. Yes, there are times you really want to quit.
But don’t give up just yet, not before making sure you’ve tried our 5 strategies and tools. So let’s get to it, OK?
1. Write evergreen content
Think evergreen. It may take more time to craft an evergreen post and possibly time to maintain it, but in the end it’s gonna be all worth it. When new people are coming to check out your blog, you’ll want to make an awesome first impression. This requires your content to be clear, relevant, and up-to-date.
Spend time every month or so checking older posts. If needed, revise them, so they’re still relevant.
This is particularly important if you are writing how-to’s and tutorials. Technology and tools tend to change when we’re not looking, so make sure your content is accurate.
2. Send notification of new posts by email
You have quite a few options to do this:
You can allow people to subscribe to your blog posts by email. A popular service for blog subscriptions is the WordPress JetPack plugin.
If you prefer not to use blog subscriptions, and you have an email subscription in place, you can set it up in such a way so it sends out a weekly email with the latest posts. If you’re using MailChimp, you can set up a MailChimp RSS campaign to go out every week, for example.
Or you can include a Latest Posts section in the email that you send out.
Last but not least, if you are doing a lot of business communication by email, add a Latest Post section in your email signature.
3. Show off your blog on social media
Many entrepreneurs understand the importance of sharing their blog posts on social media but they miss to have the blog URL prominent on all platforms.
Make sure that your blog URL is included as a link everywhere. Also check that it works properly! Some places you may want to look at are:
- Your About section on your Facebook page
- Your Twitter profile description
- Your Website section in your Pinterest profile
- Your YouTube About section
- Your Google+ profile
4. Work out the free tools
There are tons of free tools our there you can use to get your message out there. Many of them are an easy “set it and forget it” thing.
From scheduling tools that post your Facebook updates and tweet while you sleep to more sophisticated ones that share content as soon as a blog post is published.
If you haven’t already, check out a few and you may just find the one that you need!
5. Engage on other blogs
Last but not least, engage on other blogs by commenting and sharing.
For some people it sounds counterintuitive to share and therefore grow other people’s blog instead of their own only.
However, think about the conversations you’ll be starting and new connections you’re making this way.
By adding valuable comments on other people’s blogs, sharing their content on social media, you are helping not only their blog grow, but also your own by making yourself known in other circles.
